Day 1 Discussion - Thursday 10th November
12:00-12:20
Prof. Sarantos Psycharis from E3STEM welcomed participants and gave a short overview of the programme of events for the two-day meeting. Prof. Niki Evelpidou from E3STEM introduced representatives from E3STEM together with expert speakers. Alessandro Zeppelli from ECECE then introduced the remaining attendees, and each was given the opportunity to speak on their own behalf.
12:20-14:10
Prof. Sarantos Psycharis explained that the first phase of the meeting would consist of a number of presentations by expert speakers with examples of STEAM activities from the Stealth Toolkit which could be implemented in schools.
13:10
Light lunch was served without interruption to the presentations.
Saitis Giannis (E3STEM Expert) demonstrated how a simple board game designed to pre-teach vocabulary and the concept of food energy can develop into a simple mechenised robotic activity involving the programming of the micobit platform which would help students develop their knowlege and understanding of the foods and fruit produced in their local area and learn more about nutritional values versus junk foods, and define the rules of programming in an robotic Arm-wrestling match!
Kostas Kalovrechtis (E3STEM Expert) demonstrated ways in which online quizzes might be created to facilitate and consolidate the learning of nutrition and healthy eating. The presentation focussed primarily on the use of Karhoot and attendees were given the opportunity to participate in a karhoot quiz and discuss its possible applications.
Aris Paliouras (E3STEM Expert) presented Escape Room activities as live, interactive and team-based activities that can significantly facilitate learning and students’ engagement. The Nutrition Escape Room game was demonstrated as it consists of five nutrition-themed missions for students to complete. To complete each mission, students must work together to answer the questions asked and then and discover a word/code to unlock the next phase of the mission. The game ends successfully when students discover all five words/code. The main purpose of the game is for students to learn basic eating habits that they should apply throughout most of their adult life.
14:10 - 14:30
Following the three expert presentations, attendees asked questions and discussed further developments and applications for each approach.
14:30 - 14:45
Coffee Break
14:45 - 15:15
Representatives from each partner organisation reported on the progress of the project to date. The following discussion focussed on the Stealth Toolkit and how best to review the content and any further formatting issues that might be required. It was unanimously agreed that responsibility would be given to each organisation to scrutinise various aspect of the toolkit as follows:
The rationale at the beginning of the Toolkit to be reviewed by INDICIA with the aim of ensuring that it provides a clear definition of STEAM learning with ‘A’ referring to Arts subjects such as the humanities. INDICIA would also provide additional activities for Module 6 that are aimed at younger learners.
Previform would review Modules 2, 3 and 4 and provide basic health and safety guidance for inclusion in the Appendices.
ECECE would review Module 5 and look at ways to simplify the factual content designed to inform teachers’ pre-teaching.
Felix Skola agreed to work closely with INDICIA to determine which age-groups the various activities are most suited for.
15:15 – 15:50
Niki Evelpidou presented suggested assessment tools for evaluating the success of the project in terms of students’ learning and engagement. The participants agreed with Professor Evelpidou’s proposal and further instruction on the use of the assessment tools would be given sometime in December 2022.
Day 2 Discussion - Friday 11th of November
10:30 – 11:00
Prof. Sarantos Psycharis led a discussion on project management budget activities and implementation. Riccardo Cariani (ECECE) shared his experience of Erasmus_ projects and answered questions on a range of issues from recording travel expenses to various budgets available to facilitate project implementation.
11:00 – 11:15 Coffee Break
11:15-12:00
Alessandro Zeppelli explained what is required for the delivery of successful Multiplier Events. The meeting discussed a variety of suitable approaches and minimum expectations in terms of promoting the events and the number or attendees required were made clear. Alessandro Zeppelli stressed the importance or project dissemination and the meeting discussed various strategies. Prof. Psycharis Sarantos suggested that representatives from ECECE, INDICIA and Previform might want to speak at an upcoming educational conference in Athens as a means or raising the profile of the project. Alessandro Zeppelli agreed to share an updated dissemination plan based on the discussion.
12:00 – 12:30 Light Lunch
12:30-13:15
Alessandro Zeppelli gave a short presentation of the what should be included in the Project Guidelines and a short discussion followed. The discussion moved on to issues that might arise during the one-year Piloting phase: in each region.
13:15 – 14:30
Alessandro Zeppelli concluded the meeting with a PowerPoint presentation reminding participants of the project’s timeline and which tasks need to be completed in preparation for the drafting of the Interim Report. Alessandro Zeppelli reiterated the need for regular dissemination and encouraged participants to constantly update stakeholder contact lists and use these when publicising events.
The Meeting officially ended at 14:45
